Listening is a very important skill to build for several reasons.

For one, you need to be able to understand someone correctly before you can respond. In fact, you can’t communicate with someone effectively if you can’t  understand what they’re saying. Listening also help you to get a correct pronunciation, intonation, and vocabulary.

There are lots of useful apps to learn English for Android and iPhones, but the best and the most popular app is  Learn English Audio & Video.

This is an app of British Council and it will help you listen to English and speak English more fluently.

There are many lessons divided into many levels from elementary to intermediate and advanced. You can choose one of two audio modes: Online Streaming and Offline to learn English.

This app also includes the list of necessary idioms and phrases used in daily talk and with it you can improve your comprehension by allowing you to read along with a moving audioscript, also you can expand your vocabulary by learning definitions for key words in each episode and improve your listening skills by watching and listening to real, everyday English conversations.

MUST AND HAVE TO.

02 NOVEIMBRE 11

Autor: Jimena González Sanz

Hello againg! Today I want to focus on the differences between must and have to. Many English learners have some problems when deciding which one to use. So today, I want to approach to both of them and maybe enlighten you.

Basically “must”  mean an internal obligation that the person speaking feels. It is like saying “I feel it is necessary to do something”. For example, “I must start doing exercise ”, which means, “I feel it is necessary for me to exercise because it is good for my heath.” ; “ You must finish your work before 3 pm” , which means,  “ I think it is necessary that you finish this before 3pm”, “She must stop smoking”, which means , “I think it is necessary that she stops smoking because it is bad for her health.”

07 MARZO 2018 1

Autor: Jimena Gonzalez Sánz.

Welcome back to our English space. This month we are going to focus on pronunciation. Most of us are quite aware how English is a difficult language in matters related to this aspect. In fact, this is why many native children have so many mistakes during their early years. You certainly know that you cannot say everything in English as it is written, and so to avoid mispronunciation which can lead to misunderstanding we want to focus in that aspect. So it is food for thought to consider that if you want to improve your English you are going to need to pay a little of attention to it.

Many word translators (that are best that google translator in any aspect) as wordreference or linguee offer you the possibility to listen how a word is pronounced. BUSUU APP TO LEARN EASILY.

06 FEBRERO 2018 1

Autor: Verónica Amaro Bermejo

Hello everyone! This month I will introduce you a different e-learning tool to learn English; Busuu, it is similar to “duolingo” and as it usually happens with many social net works and interesting web sites, it is not only online, there is also an app for iphone and android, so you can practice and learn a language at any time. This is a social network where you can learn and improve up to 12 different languages.

With busuu, you can learn a language wherever and whenever you like, even with no internet conexion .You can use it in your spare time: while you are having a coffee, waiting for a friend, for a bus, in the metro, on the way home…. You only have to download the lessons to learn with the “no conexion” mode.

One of the great advantages of this tool is that exists a big amount of registered internetusers on this website, they are native speakers on the languages you can learn (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese) which makes the learning more productive and also you can exchange opinions and practicing the language with native people.

WEBSITES TO PROMOTE READING.

05 ENERO 2018 1

Autor: Jimena Gonzalez Sánz.

Welcome back. We want to wish to all of you happy new year 2018! It is time for New Year’s resolutions and we hope one of them will be improving your English, so probably this is why you are here. If you have proposed to yourself to increase the time spent on reading this year, then you are lucky! Today we bring you some webpages where you can do so.

But first, some advices when you start reading.

  • First things first, start with texts close to your interests; this will increase your motivation. You know what you like and it is best if you choose instead of being told what you should read. If you find it does not really provoke you, the urge to continue reading go for another one.
  • Do not try very long texts if you are not accustomed to them it is best to start little by little.
  • Start with texts close to your knowledge. Once you have a certain amount of vocabulary continue with texts with a little of difficulty for you. This will prove you are advancing despite what you might think.
  • Do not over use the dictionary. If you find a difficult word, try to find the meaning by the context. If the word appears, so many times you do not understand what it is being said then use it.
